Senior UX Designer - Melbourne Region
Seer is developing technology to revolutionise the diagnosis and management of neurological conditions, with a special focus on epilepsy. Our mission is to deliver deep personalised clinical insights and advance patient experience with leading-edge technology.
Our technology consists of wearable devices, a cloud platform and machine learning systems. These systems are at the core of our at-home video EEG monitoring and diagnostic service - the first of its kind. Seer has already made a big impact across the east coast of Australia over the last 2 years, and is now building for international expansion.
As we grow our business, we’re focussed on creating a collaborative work environment where everyone is empowered to do their best work and learn new skills and perspectives. We are committed to building a diverse team whose members help each other to grow. We’re searching for like-minded colleagues who are excited to apply technology to the healthcare industry and to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Seer fosters a work environment that promotes innovation, yet keeps it fun with regular social events, a focus on diversity and inclusion, professional development and of course, the chance to work with the best people in the business.

About our product
We're building a web platform to power wearable and implantable devices that are about to enter the healthcare market. The platform stores and manages the biomedical data from these devices, allowing us to provide personalised insights, predictions and alerts to patients in real-time. The platform currently supports our at-home EEG-ECG diagnostic services and will soon support clinical trials of devices carried out by partner companies.
Our focus to date has been on building the infrastructure, backend, and internal facing interfaces for data management and review/curation. Going forward we need to design and implement the clinician and patient facing aspects of the platform.
You’re a designer and leader who likes building cultures as well as software. You’re self-driven and thrive best in a trust-based workplace with similarly enthused and responsible peers. You’re excited by the opportunity to help steer the direction of the business and have a deep belief in the impact of design across every aspect of the work.
About the role
Our web & mobile product team is growing (we’re now 8 developers). We’re ready and delighted to hire our first dedicated designer. As we move our focus to adding features for our external users (clinicians and patients) and trying to grow adoption, we recognise the need to transition from implicit to explicit design.
We’re looking for someone who, as well as working to improve the design of our product, can educate and guide the team in building a design culture. We’re keen to avoid skill silos as the team grows, and we know you will be comfortable working closely with the team. You may not have other design colleagues (yet) but you have a team with deep IP and technical knowledge who are ready to get involved in design critique, iteration and prototyping.
Your responsibilities include:
User interviews: research design, documentation and facilitation
Usability testing: research design and testing
UX Design: Designing user stories, user flow diagrams, storyboards, wireframes, and low-fidelity sketches for our web and mobile apps
Facilitation of internal design workshops
Working with the team to create a strategy for the overall product vision (this may include working on a product roadmap at some point)
Championing consistency of interaction affordances, cognitive load and ease of navigation
Advocating for users and for user-driven design processes, interrogating assumptions, asking why, and driving critical risk evaluation across any piece of work
Being an active member of the team's growth and learning
Skills and experience
You will have most of the following attributes:
Broad experience with UX design methodologies and capabilities
Experience working in cross-functional environments alongside web/mobile developers
Experienced enough to know their own knowledge/experience gaps and to be able to identify those of the team
Comfortable leading the transition within the team from implicit to explicit design
Ability to work well in a diverse team with different backgrounds and experience levels
In addition to these base attributes, we are particularly interested in people that also have:
Experience guiding the design of large software products / platforms
Experience in UI and/or visual design
We're a young company, so you'll have the opportunity to lead and contribute to the overall direction of the business
Culture - we hire for attitude fit over specific skills, and we love colleagues who are ambitious to continue learning
A fast-moving, collaborative and flexible work environment
Work alongside experts in neurophysiology, software development and machine learning
A professional development budget for conferences, courses, networking, etc.
A focus on diversity and inclusion
Be a part of something that matters - we’re building something that will have a big impact on the way neurological, cardiac and sleep disorders are diagnosed, treated, and managed on a global scale
Please note: while we value flexibility, we're not able to accommodate remote working at this time - this role is based at Seer HQ in Melbourne CBD, VIC.
Salary range: $90k-$120k negotiable, plus 9.5% superannuation.
Please via email an application (CV and cover letter) through to the contact details below. If you’re unsure about the role or would like more information please contact us and we’d be happy to chat with you about it.
